I thought my soul would rise and fly is a really good book it’s about a young slave girl named pasty who is going the process of being freed and experiencing freedom but she doesn’t know if she wants the leave Davis plantation or stay and get paid for work. Pasty is 12 or 13 she doesn’t know exactly how old she is slaves aren’t allowed to know but, she knows how to do something that she isn’t supposed to know how to do that’s to read and write she uses that power and knowledge to help her make her choice, due to the fact that she is the only slave who knows how to read and write she made a decision to help other slaves read and write because of the hate towards the white teachers who tried to help but you have to read it to know what happens next it’s a suprise!!. i recommend this book to all 12-14 yrs who love books that tell you about history and a insight of the life of a person from long ago.. hope you enjoy!
